Sir,
The widespread damage caused by snow and avalanches in both the divisions of Jammu and Kashmir demands that the Government harness all those measures which are needed to bring relief to the affected people.
The first priority should be opening of roads. Men and machinery need to be pressed into service to enable people move from one place to another. The stranded passengers on National Highway are suffering terribly. They need to be provided relief on priority basis. The villages have got cut off from rest of the State.
The villagers face great hardship as they do not have access to medicare. It was reported that a woman lost her life as she could not be moved from her village to seek medical assistances after she got buried in debris of the house which caved in due to heavy snowfall. Water and electricity too need immediate attention.
The Jammu and Kashmir State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) should now prove its credentials by acting fast in this hour of crisis.
Yours etc….
Suhail Mattoo
