JAMMU, Mar 14: Raman Bhalla, Minister for Housing, Horticulture, Culture and Youth Services and Sports released the Calendar of Activities of the Mountaineering Association of J&K for the year 2014-15 at Abhinav Theatre, here today.
The Minister released the Calendar in the presence of Ashwani Sharma, MLA; B R Sharma, Principal Secretary, Planning and Development; Soujanya Sharma, Director Tourism, Jammu and Sanjeet Khajuria, Assistant Director, Doordarshan Kendra, Jammu.
While releasing the Calendar of Activities the chief guest, Raman Bhalla who is also Vice President of J&K State Sports Council, hoped that the climbers would bring more laurels to the State in the forthcoming Junior Masters National Sport Climbing Competition to be hosted by the Association during May, 2014.
The general secretary of the Association, Ram Khajuria highlighted the activities of the Association on the occasion.
Earlier, Shawetica Khajuria, a national Sport Climbing Judge, welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries and also gave a brief detail of the achievements of the Association during the last 27 years.
Mr Bhalla alongwith Ashwani Sharma distributed medals to the winners of the 1st Sub Junior North Zone Sport Climbing Championship. The medalists included Mrityunjay Sharma (1 gold & 1 silver), Shivani Charak (2 silver), Aman Dogra (1 silver), Shilpa Charak (2 bronze) and Ajay Deep Singh (1 bronze).
Mementoes were also presented to various teachers and organizers for their substantial contribution to the promotion of trekking and sport climbing. The names included Rachna Goswami, Principal of Shining Star Academy, Muthi, Jammu; Arvinder Kour, Bhumesh Kumar and Nishu Dubey of Oriental Academy Higher Secondary School; Rohit Sharma, M L Dogra, Anju Mahajan, Shiv Dutt and Tanu Jain of MHAC School, Nagbani; Puja Devi of Shiksha Niketan Secondary School, Gandhi Nagar; Satish Bhan of Sprawling Buds School, Chinore, Jammu and Aditya Padha of St.Xavier Sr Secondary School, Barnai, Jammu.
Mementoes were also presented to Rajan Sharma, Sports Officer, Shakti Singh Jamwal, a veteran sportsman, Rajneesh Kaushal and Ajay Sharma.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included Sumant Singh Jamwal, President Tawi Trekkers, Everester Ram Singh Slathia, Yogeshwar Kumar, M D Naqqash, Shawetica Khajuria, Vivek Chauhan, Rahul Sharma, Navneet Gupta and Rakesh Goswami.
