REASI, Mar 17: District Administration Reasi launched the “Electoral Democracy Championship-2014” aimed at eliciting greater response of youth in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections under Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Plan.
Volunteers and local youth from Reasi have been engaged for this innovative initiative for making electoral participation a way of life.
The championship was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner, Dr Shahid Iqbal in presence of senior officers of the District Administration, prominent citizens and various youth groups.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Rajinder Singh Tara; ACR Tilak Raj Sharma and other officers lead the group of rafts from Baradari to Dera Baba point.
On the way the youth halted at various places to interact with residents and administered the pledge for ethical informed voting and active participation.
Posters and pamphlets on ethical voting were also displayed and distributed.
The DC while interacting with the youth and volunteers called upon the young generation to actively participate in the process of strengthening democracy through greater participation, electoral education and spreading the message for ethical voting.
Asking them to rise above political lines to generate a healthy democratic atmosphere he called for taking the movement of electoral awareness and participation ahead.
Mr Tara and Mr Tilak Raj while accompanying the rafters during the championship visited various areas and said that initiatives like Green Vote, Plantation Drive, Blood Donation for Democracy, Jai Kissan, Jai Hindustan for farmers’ awareness and other plans are a testimony of greater youth participation in urban and rural areas.
A series of such activities have been organized under SVEEP campaign Jashn-e-Jamhuriat which has completed 7 months.
