UDHAMPUR, June 2: Foiling various attempts of bovine smugglings across the district, Police rescued 85 bovine animals and arrested seven smugglers.
64 bovines were rescued under the jurisdiction of Udhampur Police Station while 16 bovines were rescued at Tikri and five others in Majalta.
A team of Police Station Udhampur, led by SHO Raghuvir Singh, rescued 64 bovines from six different vehicles bearing registration number JK08B-8665, JK02AL-5292, JK11D-2445, JK08A-0047, JK02AF-7527, JK03J-3738 during checking at nakapoint Jakhani on the National Highway.
Drivers of these six vehicles, namely Muzamil Hussain son of Zakir Hussain of Pouni, Reasi; Istiaq son of Abdul Rashid of Anantnag, Usman son of Jamal of Anantnag, Amzad Ali son of Anzav Hussain of Anantnag, Khalad Hussain son of Mohd. Yousuf of Jakhani Udhampur and Mohd Ashraf son of Dil Mohd of Thathri, Kishtwar were arrested on the spot.
In this regard, six case FIRs under relevant sections of law have been registered in Police Station Udhampur.
Another bovine smuggling attempt was foiled by police team of Police Post Tikri, led by ICPP Sahil Singh Chib and 16 more bovines were rescued from two different vehicles bearing registration number JK03N- 6850 and JK02AJ- 4071.
Driver of the vehicle (JK02AJ- 4071), identified as Shabir son of Gulam Rasool of Talwara, Reasi, was arrested on the spot while driver of the vehicle JK03N 6850 managed to escape after leaving behind his vehicle on road.
In this connection, two case FIRs under relevant sections of law have been registered in PS Rehambal and further investigation of both the cases is underway.
Meanwhile, another attempt of bovine smuggling was foiled under the jurisdiction of Police station Majalta and five animals were rescued from a vehicle.
According to the police report one Mahindra load carrier bearing registration number JK09A-9998 which was coming from Khoon side towards the Kashmir side was stopped at PCP Battal for checking purposes.
Driver of the vehicle fled from the spot after leaving the vehicle on the road. During checking, the vehicle was found loaded with five bovine animals which were tied in cruel manner and were being illegally transported for to Kashmir for slaughtering purposes. Majalta police registered the case in this connection.
