JAMMU, Mar 18: Observing that change is imminent in the State, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) patron, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today termed the on-going Lok Sabha elections as a historic opportunity for the people to accelerate the campaign for change.
“PDP- as credible and trusted voice of the people of the State, is leading the movement for change in State”, Mufti said while addressing a meeting of prominent Gujjar leaders from Nagrota, Samba and Gandhi Nagar Assembly segments. This meeting was organised by Hamid Chowdhary, coordinator Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat.
Terming Lok Sabha elections as trailer for the Assembly polls, Mufti asked the people to avail this opportunity to send credible and trustworthy representatives in the Parliament, who would represent their aspirations with sincerity and dedication.
“PDP has fielded trustworthy, credible, tested and capable candidates who have enough potential to take up people’s issue in the Parliament with conviction”, he said and asked the people to compare PDP’s candidates with nominees of other political parties.
Quoting some reports, Mufti pointed out that sitting Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members from Jammu and Kashmir have failed to even utilize funds allotted to them under MP Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS).
“Some reports revealed that MPs of Jammu and Kashmir have failed to use more than Rs 33 crore under the MPLADS resulting in withholding of funds to the tune of more than Rs 41 crore by the Centre”, he pointed out and regretted that failure of the sitting MPs to utilize funds reflects their casual approach towards mitigating woes of the masses.
“There is a need to elect those representatives who would serve the people with dedication and sincerity”, he said and added that PDP’s candidates have already proved their convictions and commitments towards solving people’s problems.
“We are contesting Lok Sabha elections to give voice to people’s wishes and aspirations”, he said, adding, “unlike other political parties our representatives would not maintain silence in Parliament over issues related to the State of Jammu and Kashmir”.
Meanwhile, PDP senior leader Ved Mahajan today said that Centre has blocked funds for the Centrally sponsored schemes due to failure of the State Government to conduct civic bodies’ elections, which in turn is affecting development.
He said that people of urban areas are suffering for want of basic amenities due to mal-administration and nepotism.
During his door-to-door campaign for Yashpal Sharma, candidate for Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat, in Ward Number 2 of Jammu East Assembly segment, along with leaders of the party, he interacted with cross sections of the people at Jullakha Mohalla and other areas of Ward Number 2 and listened to their problems.
