Women electoral conference organized at Pouni

REASI, Mar 19: District administration organized a major electoral conference at Pouni which was aimed at increasing the level of awareness among women and elderly voters especially nomads and facilitate them to participate in the forthcoming elections in an ethical and informed way.
More than 6000 persons attended the conference, which was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Reasi (District Election Officer), Dr Shahid Iqbal. Majority of the participants were women drawn from 22 Panchayats of the block.
An electoral literacy exhibition was also inaugurated by the DC, who was accompanied by SSP Reasi Vivek Gupta, Additional SP Sanjay Singh Rana, ACD Joginder Singh Rai, PO DRDA Dr Jagdish Mehra and BDO Rajeev Khajuria.
This was seventh Photo Exhibition in the district for electoral literacy. “Election Express”, a special van launched for electoral enrollment and awareness also drew attention of participants in the town and was a main attraction. Six BLOs from various polling booths established registration counters and enrolled 154 new voters, out of which 90 were women, mostly belonging to nomadic community.
The DC appealed the people to actively participate in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections and exercise their democratic right in an ethical and inducement-free manner. He appealed the nomadic community to delay their migration to higher reaches by a month and participate in the election on April 17th.
A cultural programme, folk song series and display of talent by artists drawn from across the district and various parts of the State enthralled the audience. BDO Rajeev Khajuria convened the programme and conducted proceedings.
