JAMMU, Mar 21: The State Branch of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) released Citizens’ Charter here today.
Breaking away from the conventional way of releasing a public document by celebrities, the Red Cross choose to release the Charter by a common citizen.
While releasing the Charter, Roma Wani, general secretary, IRCS-J&K, accompanied by the previous general secretary, Feroze Ahmad, highlighted the initiatives and programmes of Red Cross. She said Red Cross promotes the Humanitarian Values which encourage respect for other human beings and a willingness to work together to mitigate the sufferings of the people who are in need.
The release of the Citizens’ Charter is part of the initiatives being taken to bring greater transparency in the functioning of the Red Cross and enhance people’s participation in its activities, she added.
The excellent cooperation of civil society and organizations throughout the State has enabled us to develop a strategy and fund which can genuinely meet the needs of local requirements which contribute to humanitarian assistance, she said and called on member districts to involve citizens in a meaningful manner at the different stages of the programming, and to use Red Cross fund for the unconditional support of the most vulnerable and excluded who are farther away from the main stream.
Highlighting the fund raising programme planned and initiated for the next financial year, she said, “We all have been moved by the terrible suffering of the people in the State and need support of the community as a whole to raise funds for the relief efforts.”
Roma appealed the public, especially the civil society to extend their support to strengthen the Red Cross Movement in the State and hoped that a larger number comes forward to assist the humanitarian work.
