JAMMU, Mar 24: The Director General Youth Services and Sports, Navin Agarwal distributed the annual sports scholarships for the year 2013-14, among 264 participants of 59th National School Games (NSG) from Jammu district, which included 27 medalists, at the Auditorium of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, here today.
Mr Agarwal had sanctioned an amount to the tune of Rs 18,13, 000 for twin divisions of the State, which included 56 medalists and 888 participants, in which Jammu division got Rs 11, 60, 000 for 532 participants and 35 medalists, out of which the players belonging to Jammu district were honoured today.
The DG Sports presented Rs 7000 each to silver medalists, Rs 5, 000 each to bronze medalists and Rs 1750 each to the participants of the National School Games drawn from district Jammu.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Agarwal said that the main objective of presenting the scholarships is to inculcate the sense of sports culture among the school going children, adding that small amount would motivate budding players to take part in various sports activities conducted by the Department of Youth Services and Sports.
Meanwhile, the Director General interacted with the field staff of the department including Physical Education Lecturers, Zonal Physical Education Officers, Physical Education Masters and Physical Education Teachers in a One-Day Conference on Physical Education at the same venue, today.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Agarwal said though Physical Education as subject has become immensely popular at Plus-2 stage, yet its practical application in the Middle School and Secondary School Level is not being evaluated, which is the need of the hour.
He said that a proper syllabus for each standard will be designed and a system of comprehensive evaluation will be introduced in Physical Education soon and the development of the children will be properly monitored.
Prominent among those who attended the meeting were Ved Prakash, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports Jammu and Kanchan Bala, Deputy Director Physical Education.
