JAMMU, Mar 25: In order to promote cultural and social interest among the students, 2-day cultural festival namely Krishi Utsav 2014 is being celebrated at the Faculty of Agriculture (FoA) at main Campus of SKUAST-Jammu, which got underway here today.
Prof Pradeep K Sharma, Vice Chancellor of the University was the chief guest on the inaugural function of the event.  The Krishi Utsav was declared open by Vice Chancellor by lighting of the traditional lamp followed by Saraswati Vandana.
The Vice Chancellor called upon the students to take active part in co-curricular and cultural programmes as these are important for all-round development of the personality.
He said that the academic programmes supplemented with the cultural and sports activities make life more interesting, attractive and rewarding.
Dr S S Jamwal, Director Agriculture, Jammu who was the guest of honour on the occasion, appreciated the efforts of students and stressed to make the professional education more lucrative for the new entrants.
Earlier, Dean, FoA presented welcome address and emphasized that such activities inculcate the discipline and bring confidence in the students.
A large number of University students are taking part in the various programmes being organized under the Krishi Utsav 2014 including Ganpati dance, folk dance and songs, rangoli, mehandi, quiz, debate, poetry and painting.
