JAMMU, June 28: Brought laurels to the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory (JK-UT) and India, Sheetal Devi and Sarita duo has defeated Jodie Grinham and Phoebe Paterson Pine of Great Britain to win women’s compound team gold at the Para Archery Ranking series in Czech Republic today.
As per reports India’s Sheetal Devi and Sarita defeated Jodie Grinham and Phoebe Paterson Pine of Great Britain to win women’s compound team gold at the Para Archery Ranking series in Czech Republic.
The Indian duo scored 157 out of the possible 160, triumphing over the British pair. India also won gold in the women’s recurve team event against Germany 6-2.
In the men’s compound team final, Rakesh Kumar-Shyam Sundar Swami lost to Alisina Manshaezadeh-Hadi Nori of Iran 149-156 to bag silver. The Indian men’s recurve team lost in the semifinal but managed to win bronze against Iran by 5-4. Sheetal was bestowed the Arjuna award earlier this year for her two gold and a silver medal winning performance in the Hangzhou Asian Para Games.
The 16-year-old, who hails from Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar was born with phocomelia, a disorder causing underdeveloped limbs. Without arms, she learned to use a bow and arrow using her feet and started training fulltime in archery only two years ago.
Expressing her joy, Sheetal Devi in social media handle X (earlier twitter) said, “Thrilled to share that Sarita Didi and I won gold in the women’s doubles at the world ranking tournament in the Czech Republic!”
