UDHAMPUR, June 29: Locals of Chenani area today protested against Chenani Municipal Committee (CMC) seeking shifting of garbage dumping station in Dhnas Pattan Ghar road.
The protesting people raised slogans against the Chenani Municipal Committee (CMC) and demanded that the garbage dumping station should be shifted at least one kilometer from the Chenani.
They said that the garbage dumping site is an inhabited area and it is also the same spot on the banks of River Tawi from where water is taken for supplying the same to Udhampur and Jammu town.
“More ironic is the fact that the PHE Department has not bothered to complain to the administration for checking garbage dumping at the site and even the Pollution Control Department has also ignored the situation,” they added.
The locals alleged that a number of waterborne diseases like jaundice, diarrhoea and skin ailments are affecting people because of polluted water being supplied due to garbage dumping but there was no action from the authorities.
The protesters threatened to block the National Highway if the Chenani Municipal Committee (CMC) does not take early action against the problem.
