JAMMU, June 29: Socio-political activist Jayesh Gupta today lambasted the NHAI for ignoring the concerns of the local trader community and constructing the flyover with blind walls over Kunjwani-Narwal Bypass Highway.
Addressing a press conference, Jayesh Gupta said the construction of flyover with blind walls would adversely impact the livelihoods of approximately 10 lakh people. He stated that this project, which is part of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, is causing public resentment and should be halted immediately.
Gupta demanded that the flyover from Kunjwani to Narwal be constructed on pillars instead of blind walls, echoing the sentiments of the traders. He stressed that constructing the flyover with blind walls would harm the trade activities and urged NHAI to adhere to their request to build it on pillars instead.
He said despite having a meeting with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who assured the traders of appropriate steps, the construction work of the flyover on blind walls are underway. He said flyover with blind walls is not acceptable to the traders of the area as it will result into closure of their trade activities.
“We urged the NHAI to construct the flyover on pillars instead of blind walls,” Gupta said and demanded the NHAI to immediately stop the construction work of blind wall flyover. He said that traders are not against construction of flyover but NHAI should also take care of their concerns and construct the flyover on pillars. He also criticized the local leadership of Jammu for not paying heed to the genuine issues of trader community.
