JAMMU, Mar 27: The talks between the scholars and students with University of Jammu administration over denying admission to various scholars in PhD courses including Scholars Joint Action Committee (SSJAC) Chairman Varinder Singh have remained fruitless on the third consecutive day today, which has compelled the activists of SSJAC and National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) to hold protest against the Varsity administration.
The students, who were denied admission in various PhD courses, were SSJAC Chairman Varinder Singh, Pradhuman Singh, Shiv Kumar Khajuria, Ritu Raj Sharma, Sikandya Devi, Nishant Verma, Mousin Raina, Ajay Prasar, Varinder Kour and many others.
The protestors raised slogans against the University administration and Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar accusing them of adopting dictatorial policies and spoiling the future of scholars from Jammu region.
The protesting students led by Neeraj Kundal, NSUI State president and Feroz Khan, All India State Secretary, NSUI said that the scholars and students had been suffering harassment at the hands of dictatorial administration which is working at the behest of political touts and inefficient officers in the Varsity.
They said they had been holding talks with the University administration for the last three days but it failed to bring good results in favour of the aggrieved scholars and students.
They demanded that the report of inquiry committee, which was constituted to address the genuine issues of the scholars and students, should be made public so that the student community knows the actual position.
“Vice-Chancellor has himself admitted that the inquiry committee has given its report in favour of the students and scholars but no action has been taken to implement the report on ground. The callous attitude of the authorities is spoiling the future of the scholars and students,” Neeraj Kundal said.
“Prof Ishar admitted that the delay in granting admission to SSJAC Chairman took place due to negligence of the concerned department. He also said that the university has constituted a team of Deans and Conveners for conducting DRCs so that the students from Department of Strategic Studies are given justice”, Kundal added.
Ajay Prasar, Nishi Slathia and Varinder Kour, activists of SSJAC demanded removal of Director, Department of Strategic and Regional Studies for not conducting DRC for the past two years.
The protesting students warned that they would intensify their agitation if the university failed to grant admission to SSJAC Chairman at the earliest.
