JAMMU, Mar 28: Former Minister and senior Congress leader R S Chib has said that Congress Party under the leadership of PCC chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz has taken up the issue of refugees of 1947, 65 and 71 besides, those from West Pakistan with the Union Government for one time settlement.
Addressing series of election meetings, seeking support for party candidate Madan Lal Sharma, at Sai Khurd, Sai Kallan, Nekowal and Biaspur Parlah in R S Pura today, Mr Chib said that Congress Party has taken a bigger initiative under the leadership of Prof Soz to resolve the issues of refugees from PoK and West Pakistan and Chhamb. These people have been suffering since long.
The local Congress leadership strongly projected their case and now it has been taken up forcefully with the Central Government. He said that Congress Party was committed for it and only Congress can provide justice to them. Mr Chib demanded support for the Congress candidate from Jammu-Poonch seat Madan Lal Sharma. He claimed that UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi have taken personal initiative to resolve the pending issues of refugees.
Mr Chib said Congress-NC Coalition Government has successfully completed the Panchayat elections in the State to take power to the door steps of the people of the State. The Panchayati Raj Act of J&K has been further strengthened by incorporating 73rd Amendment, because of stand taken by Congress. He claimed that now Sarpanchs and Panchs will be able to perform their function more effectively.
Block president Suchetgarh Sobha Singh, Ch Bachan Lal, Sarpanch Paras Ram, Sarpanch Swarn Singh, Ch Mohinder Singh and others also spoke on the occasion.
