SRINAGAR, July 11: State Rowing team was flagged off for the National Championship by the J&K Association of Rowing & Sculling (JKARS) here today. It was very touching to witness the parents’ excitement for their children at the event.
Member of Parliament (MP), Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi was the chief guest on the occasion. He commended (JKARS) for their unceasing efforts to give emerging Union Territory players a stage. Ruhullah motivated the team to give their best effort at the exciting National Championship.
He said water sports is a rapidly growing sport with a lot of potential and assured that he will take-up the matter with the Central Government for its promotion.  He also praised Bilquis Mir for creating history by becoming the first person from India who got selected as jury member in Paris Olympics 2024.
Bilquis Mir, who was also present at the event said, “I’m committed to working at the grassroots level to promote water sports in Union Territory (UT) and train our youth to uncover their potential and give them greater platforms.”
President JKARS, Dr Burhan Bazaz applauded the role of J&K Sports Council in high notes for providing every possible help to showcase the talent of Team J&K at 7th National Indoor Rowing Championship at Punjab.
He further added that it’s worth sharing that District Baramulla has created a space of four players for the first time to participate in the National Championship of Rowing.  “We have been trained in a very scientific way and we will try our level best to bring Glory to UT,” said Fatima.  In the recent National Championship of rowing Team J&K secured the Bronze medal and made JKARS proud.
