Para students continue protest

JAMMU, Mar 29: To express their resentment over poor result by J&K Nursing Council, the para-medical students today blocked the vehicular movement on the busiest Bakshi Nagar road.
Hundreds of para-students assembled on Bakshi Nagar road outside Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and raised slogans against the Health Department, Principal GMC Dr Shashi Gupta and J&K Nursing Council.
The protesters demanding re-checking of answer scripts besides publication of result in gazette blocked the vehicular movement on the busiest Bakshi Nagar road, which resulted into long traffic snarls.
Addressing the gathering, one of the protestors alleged that the lethargic approach of J&K Nursing Council and allied departments, responsible for the conduct of the examination has compelled them to come on roads.
He alleged that it is deliberate attempt to declare maximum of students as failed and a probe of entire matter should be carried out so that truth would be ascertained.
The protesters appealed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to personally intervene in the matter and issue directions to concerned department to re-check the papers of paramedical students.
On getting information, senior police officials rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators with the assurance that matter will be taken up with concerned departments.
On the assurance, the protestors dispersed and vehicular movement was restored.
