JAMMU, Mar 30: Two-day Border Mela was inaugurated at Suchetgarh here today in which Y. V. Sharma, President Chamber of Commerce was the chief guest.
The mela was organized by the Tourism Department to promote border tourism in the State. It is the initiative to divert the pilgrim tourists visiting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine to other adjoining areas. The 2-day mela is a part of the promoting border tourism.
The highlight of the mela was a scintillating cultural bonanza which was applauded by the locals as well as the visiting tourists.
The departmental stalls put up by agriculture, horticulture and other departments attracted lot many local people who gathered in large number there. The eatable stalls put up by the locals were the main attraction for the tourists who enjoyed the local cuisine.
Y. V Sharma while speaking on the occasion complemented the Tourism Department for organizing this two-day festival. He said that this will go a long way in promoting tourism in the State.
Earlier, Director Tourism Soujanya Sharma in his welcome address appreciated the role of BSF in promoting the border tourism. He said that Tourism Felicitation Centre has been created at Suchetgarh and more facilities will also be added for the benefit of visiting tourism in a near future.

Among others, Joint Director Tourism Shiv Kumar, Deputy Director Kewal Krishan, and Kanta Sharma, other senior officers and prominent citizens were present on the occasion.
