Col Jasrotia claims Veterans title; Varun tops in senior category

JAMMU, Apr 1: Colonel RS Jasrotia smashed Ajay Kapoor by 3-1 sets and claimed the ‘Veterans title’ of the “State Squash Championship” organised by J&K Squash Rackets Association and sponsored by J&K State Sports Council at Jammu Club.
In the first set, Colonel Jasrotia registered win over Ajay Kapoor by 11-5 score, but Ajay Kapoor equalized the game by winning the set by 13-11.
In the third set, Colonel Jasrotia thrashed Ajay Kapoor by 11-5 and maintained the same momentum in the next set also and crushed Ajay Kapoor by 11-3 score.
In the senior category, Varun Langeh with his perfect skills, stamina and speed registered win over Jaideep Nayyar by 3-2 sets.
In the first set, Jaideep Nayyar registered win by 11-5 score, whereas in the second set, Varun Langeh equalized the game by winning the set by 11-9 score.
In the third set, Nayyar again crushed Jaideep by 11-6 score, but lost the fourth set by 11-4 score.
In the decider set, Varun Langeh with his perfect skills smashed Jaideep Nayyar by 11-6 score and claimed the title trophy.
In senior category, the third place was shared by Chetina Sharma and Pankaj Aggarwal.
Earlier, Shivang defeated Rohit by straight 2-0 sets and claimed the ‘Junior Title’ of the Championship. In the first semis of the junior category, Shivang thrashed Kaveen, whereas in the second semis, Rohit registered win over Varun.
On the valedictory function, CA Pardeep Gandotra was the chief guest, who awarded the winners in presence of Ranjit Kalra, member, BCCI, Dr Taran Singh from Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Foundation and sports lovers.
While speaking, GS Bakshi general secretary of J&K Squash Rackets Association and organizer of the championship presented detailed report of the championship.
Bakshi said that there is no squash court of J&K State Sports Council and urged the J&K State Sports Council and Government for construction of squash courts at Jammu and Srinagar so that more and more youngsters get attracted to this game.
To boost the morale of the players, Bakshi informed that the association will organize more and more tournament in the near future.
