NEW DELHI, July 1: Global coffee exports rebounded marginally by 5 per cent to 9.85 million bags in May 2012 after witnessing a fall in shipments for two consecutive months, International Coffee Organisation (ICO) said.
Worldwide shipments of the brew stood at 9.38 million bags (of 60 kg each) in the same month of 2011.
World coffee exports declined by nearly 12 per cent to 8.77 million bags in April this year from 9.93 million bags in the year-ago period, while global shipments fell by almost 7 per cent to 9.88 million bags in March, 2012 from 10.59 million bags in March, 2011.
Exports in the first eight months of the 2011-12 coffee year (October-September), however decreased by 2.3 per cent to 70.64 million bags compared to 72.29 million bags in the October-May period of the last coffee year.
Market analysts have attributed the decline in exports mainly to a fall in shipments of Colombian Milds and Brazilian Naturals varieties.
According to the global body on coffee, exports in the first half of the 2011-12 coffee year fell by 2.3 per cent to 51.7 million bags from 52.9 million bags in the 2010-11 coffee year mainly on account of drop in shipments by Brazil and Columbia.
For the 12 months ending May 2012, coffee shipments were down at 103.06 million bags as against 104.76 million bags in the year-ago period. (PTI)
