JAMMU/AKHNOOR, Apr 4: To give further impetus to the electioneering, Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma and Chairman Election Campaign Committee today addressed a series of election meetings in different Wards of Jammu West constituency and several villages of Akhnoor constituency.
While appealing the people to support the Congress-NC joint candidate from Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary Constituency, Madan Lal Sharma, the Minister said that the sitting MP has taken several big development initiatives in all most all the constituencies out of the resources available with him. He has also brought several important projects for Jammu people, which included bridges, roads, check dams, irrigation tubewells and other welfare measures for the people of poor and weaker sections of the society. He asked the people to give another chance to Madan Lal Sharma so that he can fullfill the aspirations of the people.
Differentiating between the Congress and the BJP, the Minister said that BJP has the agenda of flaring up the communal tension and misleading the people on the name of religion, caste and creed which disintegrate the society. The party has served the country for a brief spell and proved utter failure and only flourished the capitalism and poor people suffered badly. He cautioned the people to remain vigilant against this communal party which weakens the social fabric of pluralistic society of India. He said Congress has rich and vast history of serving the nation and it has taken several revolutionary steps for the welfare of the people.
He sought vote for the Congress Party to ensure all round development, peace and prosperity of country and Jammu and Kashmir. He also highlighted the importance of coalition between Congress and National Conference in the State.
The election meetings were held in Jammu West Constituency at Ward Nos, 12, 13, 24, 28, 33 and 40 and Fruit & Vegetable Market, Narwal which were attended by hundreds of people and workers of Congress and National Conference.
Prominent among those addressed the meeting included, Congress leaders, S.S. Shingari, Th. Manmohan Singh, Kanta Bhan, Pawan Sharma, Rajiv Saraf, Chander Mohan Sharma (NC), several ex-Corporators of different wards.
In Akhnoor, the meetings were held at village, Queer, Kathar, Dhana Ardhan, Gosan, Gharatal, Mera Mandrian.
