SRINAGAR, July 31: Director General of Police (DGP) Jammu and Kashmir, R R Swain, emphasized the crucial role of sports in youth engagement and lauded private entrepreneurship’s involvement in promoting sports during the inaugural match of the First Kashmir Hockey League at Polo Ground, Srinagar.
Speaking to reporters at the event, Swain highlighted the multiple benefits of sports, noting that it fosters healthy competition, builds team spirit, and promotes physical fitness. “Sports is an activity which has competition, and it is a healthy competition. It also has team spirit. It is a physical exercise. And there is no bigger activity for youth than this in a positive engagement,” he stated.
The DGP praised the J&K Police’s enduring commitment to promoting sports and expressed a desire to see such initiatives expand. “J&K Police has a history of promoting sports and sporting activities. It should be promoted well among youngsters. So, we would like to support every such opportunity,” he said.
Swain also commended the involvement of private entities and the Gurudwara committee in supporting the hockey league, remarking, “It is really nice to see that not only at the Government level, but private entrepreneurships are also coming forward for the promotion of our national sport, hockey.”
IGP, Kashmir VK Birdi and Secretary J&K Sports Council Nuzhat Gul were also present during the event.
