JAMMU, Aug 2: Anil Goswami, former Union Home Secretary and Ashwani Sharma, former MLA, jointly flagged off a five-member team from the Mountaineering Association of J&K for an expedition to Kangri peak (6,070 meters) in Ladakh, here today.
Led by experienced mountaineer Sumit Khajuria, the team includes Sonam Sidharth, Shashi Kant Sharma, Sourav Deep Singh, and Mallikarun Singh, all trained mountaineers active in adventure sports. Shashi Kant Sharma has previously scaled Matho Kangri and Kang Yissey peaks.
Kangri, a newly explored peak in the upper valley of Rumtse village, 75 km from Leh, presents a challenging climb with a 10-11 hour ascent from the base camp at 5,320 meters. The summit offers breathtaking views of the Markha valley and eastern Karakoram ranges. The team hopes to reach the summit within 12 days.
Anil Goswami commended the Association for its efforts in organizing such challenging expeditions, while Ashwani Sharma urged the team to prepare fully for the upcoming challenges. The event was attended by prominent figures including Prof. Lalit Magotra, Shivani Charak, and members of Tawi Trekkers J&K, with Shawetica Khajuria and Ram Khajuria representing the Mountaineering Association of J&K.
