Delhi win NZ T20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

CHANDIGARH, Apr 5: Delhi maintained their unbeaten  record after defeating Services by five wickets and 10 balls to spare in their last league match in the five-team North Zone T20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium here today. With five wins from as many matches, Delhi collected 20 points to emerge champions while Haryana with four victories and one defeat logged 16 points to obtain runners-up position.

Chasing a vicotry target of 145 runs, Delhi made changes in their batting order. Mithun Manhas (31, 5x4s) and Unmukt Chand (14) opened their innings and this pair put on 36 runs in 2.5 overs before Chand departed, bowled by Suraj Yadav. Milind Kumar (32, 4x4s) came to the crease and with Manhas he realised 45 runs for the second wicket before Manhas was caught by Yadav of the bowling of Sumit Singh.

The second Delhi wicket fell at 81 in 10.5 overs. Milind also returned to the pavilion with the addition of only one run to the Delhi’s score of 82 for 3 in 11.4 overs. Puneet Bisht was out after making 27 with the help of four fours.

Rajat Bhatia played an entertaining knock of 30 which came in just 10 deliveries and his knock was studded with five boundaries one one six. Delhi achieved their target by scoring 145 for 5 in 18.2 overs.

Sumit Singh was the most successful Services bowlers as he bagged 3 for 24.

Earlier, Services won the toss and elected to bat. They scored 144 for 6 in stipulated 20 overs. Yashpal Singh (39, 4x4s), Anshul Gupta (23), Rajat Paliwav (23), Devender Lochab (18 not out), Sumit Singh (15) and Nakul Verma (14) were their main scorers.

For Delhi, Pawan Suyal (2 for 33) and Varun Sood (2 for 26) were mainly responsible for restricting Services total.
