SRINAGAR, Apr 9: Sixteen candidates have filed nominations from Srinagar Parliamentary constituency with People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Tariq Hamid Qarra, being richest of all with net worth of Rs 98.5 crore.
The Returning Officer of the Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency, Farooq Ahmad Shah, told Excelsior that they have received nominations of 16 contestants with the PDP and the BJP candidates filing their nominations today. “Tomorrow is the scrutiny of the nomination papers”, he added.
The main contest in the constituency is between National Conference (NC) patron, Dr Farooq Abdullah and Qarra. Abdullah is sitting MP from Srinagar who defeated the PDP candidate Molvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari in 2009 Parliament elections.
The others who have filed nomination papers from Srinagar constituency are Fayaz Ahmad Bhat of BJP, Mohammad Maqbool Malik of Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party, Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat of Aam Aadmi Party, Mushtaq Shameem of Akhil Bhartiya Muslim League (Secular), Mohammad Shafi Guru of Jai Prakash Janta Dal and independents including Rabia Altaf, Mirza Sajjad Hussain Beg, Feroze Ahmad Bhat, Abdul Rashid Tantray, Reyaz Ahmad Wani, Bashir Mohammad Reshi, Chetan Sharma, Aga Syed Mohsin and Nisar Ahmad Ahangar.
BJP changed their candidate Arif Majid Pampori at the last minute and fielded Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, former BJP leader who is running an NGO from South Kashmir. Bhat has shown moveable assets worth Rs 1.52 lakh in his affidavit.
Qarra while filing his nomination papers today said that the contest is not between Abdullah and him but it is a fight between justice and injustice. “It’s the fight between justice and injustice, and I represent justice. People have seen the extent of no governance and mal-administration; people want change and I represent that change,” he added.
Qarra has shown his net worth at Rs 98.5 crores and is the richest candidate of the constituency followed by Abdullah who has net worth of Rs 13 crore.
Qarra’s moveable assets have risen from Rs 36 lakhs in 2008 to Rs 45 lakh in 2014 with annual increase of Rs 1.5 lakh.
Qarra has his family cash of Rs 2.2 lakh, banks deposits of around Rs 68 lakh, shares in Jammu and Kashmir bank amounting to Rs 4.8 lakh, gold worth Rs 21 lakh and a car worth Rs 7.47 lakh.
Qarra has immovable property worth Rs 98 crores and it has remained same as it was in 2008 but the market value has increased.
Qarra has agriculture land of 16.25 acres at Shive Pora worth Rs 75 crore, commercial buildings including shops worth Rs 6 crore and two residential house including land at Shive Pora and Magarmal Bagh Batmaloo worth Rs 16.6 crore.
