JAMMU, Aug 18: The Yonex-Sunrise All J&K Senior & Junior Ranking and Selection Badminton Tournament concluded at the Badminton Hall, M.A. Stadium, here today. Organized by the Badminton Association of J&K in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, the tournament witnessed intense competition among the state’s top badminton players.
Dr. O.D. Sharma, Vice President of Badminton Association of India (BAI) and Chairman of Badminton Association of J&K, graced the event as the Chief Guest and presented awards to the winners and runners-up of the competition. Other prominent attendees included Suraj Bhan Singh, Manager of the Indoor Sports Complex, Balbir Jamwal, General Secretary of BAJK, Dushyant Sharma, and Treasurer of BAJK, along with Rahul Sharma, Subash Sharma, and Pawanjit Singh.
The tournament served as a selection event for the J&K UT teams set to compete in the North Zone Interstate Badminton Championships, scheduled to be held in Chandigarh from September 4 to 8, 2024. The selection was based on the players’ performances during the tournament.
The matches were conducted under the supervision of coaches Touseef Ahmed, Vikram Saini, Divum Gupta, and Sukhdev Singh, ensuring a high standard of play throughout the event.
The results were Boys Under-19 winner, Shourya Pratham, in Girls Skiedeep Kour. In Boys under-19 doubles, the winners were Shouryaveer and Vaibhav. Mixed doubles winners were Thakur Aneesh and Antima. Men’s singles winner was Raghav Dogra and Women’s singles was won by Skideep Kour. Men’s doubles winners were Harsh and Puranjay.
