SRINAGAR, Aug 23: The 8th Srinagar District Fencing Championship, organized by the Srinagar District Fencing Association in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, concluded at the Indoor Sports Complex, here today. The championship was held over two days, from August 21 to 22, 2024, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from 70 young fencers, including both boys and girls from various government and private schools across district Srinagar. The athletes competed in multiple events, including Epee, Foil and Sabre.
Nusrat Gazala, Divisional Sports Officer (Kashmir), J&K Sports Council, who was the chief guest on the occasion. Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar and other dignitaries served as guests of honour. NIS-qualified coach and PEM, Razia Sultan, served as the Organizing Secretary, while Vansh Mahajan officiated the bouts as a technical expert.
Highlights of the event included stellar performances by Numaan and Saika, who won gold in the Open Sabre Boys and Girls categories, respectively, and Mehak, who secured gold in the Open Epee Girls category. The U-19 categories also saw remarkable talent, with Aarif and Haniya clinching gold in their respective Sabre events.
Aiyaz Ahmad, President of the Srinagar District Fencing Association, and Sameer Muzaffar Mir, General Secretary, congratulated all the medal winners and the organizing committee for the successful execution of the championship.
