JAMMU, Aug 24: The 7th edition of the Jodhamal Youth Conclave (JYC) began today at Jodhamal Public School here, bringing together students from top schools across India for a three-day simulation of United Nations proceedings.
The event aims to deepen participants’ understanding of global issues through debates and discussions. Harsh Vardhan Shringla, former Foreign Secretary (FS) of India and chief coordinator for India’s G20 presidency, delivered the keynote address via video.
The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the lamp, followed by the presentation of gavels to the committee chairpersons. Principal Girish Kumar welcomed the attendees and Aviral Kapoor (secretary general of JYC 2024) officially opened the conference.
The Conclave has drawn over 400 delegates, observers and guests from schools including K C Public School, KC International School, GD Goenka Public School, Jammu Sanskriti School, Presentation Convent School and Delhi Public School, Udhampur.
The student leadership team led by Aviral Kapoor as secretary general, includes Navaj Kunal Anand as director general, Moksh Sharma as convenor, Soham Magazine as chargé d’affaires, Shaurya Jamwal as president, Mayara Aul as USG outreach, Rohan Langer as USG logistics, Krishika Koul as USG delegate affairs, Rebecca Verma as USG media, and Raza Ali as USG operations.
The event is being organized under the guidance of conference director Anjali Mahajan, with support from teachers Mubeen Butt, Raghunandan Singh and Pooja Sharma.
The theme for this year’s Conclave is “Excessus Virtutis Vitium Est,” meaning “Excess of Virtue is a Vice”. The six committees and their agendas include Lok Sabha, SPECPOL, International Consortium of Investigative Journalists Special Corps, United Nations Women, All India Political Parties Meet, and International Press, each addressing pressing national and international issues.
The ceremony also featured the release of the JYC 2024 Montage and the unveiling of the JYC newsletter “MUNBELIEVABLE.” Dignitaries present included Nandan Kuthiala, Trustee; Arati Kuthiala, Director; Girish Kumar, Principal; and Amita Arora, Vice Principal.
The Conclave will conclude on August 25 with a prize giving ceremony after three days of debate and diplomacy.
