LEH, Aug 25: The Ladakh Aero Festival and Pre-Paragliding Accuracy World Cup have kicked off with great enthusiasm in Leh. Taking place from August 25-28, this event is set against the backdrop of the world’s highest paragliding accuracy site at 14,400 feet. The festival aims to establish Ladakh as a premier destination for adventure tourism and aero sports enthusiasts.
The opening ceremony was marked by CEC Tashi Gyalson, who underscored the significance of this landmark event for Ladakh. He also discussed future prospects, including local paragliding competitions and the need for increased investment in adventure tourism.
Chief Judge Raju Rai from Sikkim praised the efforts of the UT administration and LAHDC, expressing confidence in the future growth of paragliding in the region. All participants will receive FAI awards, adding to the prestige of the competition.
The festival features 45 pilots competing in three categories-Overall Men, Overall Women, and Overall Team-with winners receiving gold, silver, and bronze medals along with cash prizes. The event also included the launch of official festival T-shirts, capturing the spirit of the occasion.
The inauguration was attended by notable figures including Mahavir Chakra Colonel Sonam Wangchuk, former CEC Gyal Wangyal, Councillor Sakti Tsering Rigzin, SDM Sonam Dorjey, AD Tourism Fesal Iqbal Tantray, and personnel from the Indian Air Force.
