Retd ASI dies, 11 hurt in Darhal accident

RAJOUR, Apr 12: A retired Assistant Police Inspector (ASI) was killed while 11 others injured, three of them seriously, when a Tata Mobile (goods carrier), rolled  into a gorge near Chowki in Darhal  area this afternoon.
The mishap took place at around 3 pm when the Tata Mobile vehicle No. JK-11/ 4931, loaded with 40 cement bags was on way to Darhal from Chowki village. Eleven local passengers were also on board. As the vehicle reached near Darhal, the driver who is said to be a minor boy, lost control and the vehicle landed into nearly 60 feet deep gorge.
The driver Mohd Imran, son of Munshi Khan hailing from Danda, Darhal jumped out of vehicle and escaped. The police was looking for the driver. Immediately after the mishap, the locals and police party rushed here. The injured were rushed to Darhal hospital where retired ASI  Abdul Rashid, son of Mohd Khan, resident of Chowki was declared as dead.
Seven were referred to District Hospital Rajouri where three seriously injured were further shifted to GMC Jammu. They were identified as 14-year-old Mohd Kaif, son of Mohd Hafiz of  Chowki, Mohd Riaz and Saddam Hussain of Chowki.  Mohd Rashid, Yasir Hussain, Mohd Iqbal, Shahid Amin and Habibulla were admitted to Rajouri hospital.
Meanwhile, the people of the area held protest demonstration and demanded arrest of the minor boy driving vehicle. DySP concerned assured the people that absconding driver will be arrested shortly.
