JAMMU, Aug 31: The International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) announced the successful conclusion of the 2024 World Junior Snooker Championships, which took place from August 24 to 31, 2024, in Bengaluru, India. Hosted by the Billiards & Snooker Federation of India (BSFI), the event showcased the best young talent in the sport, with participants from 12 countries competing fiercely in the Under-17 Men and Under-21 Men & Women categories.
In the Under-17 category, Christian Ritcher from Germany emerged as the winner, with Thailand’s Lomnah Isarangkun taking the position of first runner-up. In the Under-21 category, Poland’s Michal Szubarczyk claimed the title, while Germany’s Alexander Widau secured the first runner-up spot. Among the girls, India’s. Natasha became the champion, with Thailand’s Narucha Phoemphul finishing as the first runner-up.
In an exhilarating final, 13-year-old Michal Szubarczyk from Poland emerged victorious in the Under-21 category, demonstrating remarkable skill and composure throughout the tournament. His victory marks a significant achievement in his young career and highlights the potential of rising stars in the world of snooker.
From Jammu & Kashmir, Kamran Majid represented the region in the prestigious tournament. Despite his valiant efforts, Majid was unable to advance past the first round, but his participation underscored the growing presence of snooker talent from J&K on the international stage.
Meanwhile, Kuldeep Sharma, General Secretary of the Billiards and Snooker Association of Jammu & Kashmir (BSAJK), was honoured to be a special invitee at this prestigious event. After the championships, an annual meeting of the BSFI was held, where Sharma represented Jammu & Kashmir, contributing valuable insights and perspectives that are vital for the growth of snooker in the region. His ongoing efforts to promote the sport in Jammu & Kashmir have significantly elevated its profile and participation.
