Boxing competition under SVEEP held

POONCH, Aug 31: An exhibition boxing competition held under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiative captivated the young voters and the general public at the sports stadium in Poonch today. Vikas Kundal, District Election Officer of Poonch, graced the event as the chief guest. The competition aimed to foster electoral awareness and featured the participation of four girls and five national-level boxers, with the presence of female boxers being a significant highlight.
Kundal praised the dedication and sportsmanship of the young athletes, underscoring the value of physical fitness and encouraging the youth to embrace sports for a healthier lifestyle. “I am deeply impressed by the enthusiasm and skill displayed by our young boxers today, especially the female participants. Their involvement not only demonstrates their commitment to the sport but also serves as an inspiration to young people in this district. I urge all youth in Poonch to engage in sports, stay fit, and participate actively in the electoral process as responsible citizens,” Kundal remarked.
Mushtaq Ahmed, the boxing coach, noted Poonch’s growing prominence in the sport, citing that over 35 students from the district have competed at the national level and more than 95 at State-level tournaments. He highlighted that two girls from Poonch have made their mark at national competitions. Among the participants was a boy who had competed in the prestigious Khelo India Games and another who secured a silver medal at a national-level event last year.
The event was also attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Tahir Mustafa Malik, CEO Lal Hussain, District Sports Officer Poonch, and members of the district SVEEP team, all contributing to the success of the initiative.
