J&K shines at Nat’l Dance Championship

JAMMU, Sept 3: Jammu and Kashmir UT dazzled at the “National Performing Arts Association of India 2024” event held at Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. The event, organized by the Uttar Pradesh Performing Arts Association in collaboration with the Performing Arts Association of India, showcased a vibrant array of talent from across India in dance, singing, and acting.
The opening ceremony featured the lighting of the lamp by Gurvinder Kour, Secretary of J&K UT, alongside other UT secretaries and Rajnikant Thakur, General Secretary of the Performing Arts Association of India. The judging panel included esteemed members like Gurvinder Kour, Mohit Chouhan from Punjab, Vermon Monterio from Mumbai, Suraj Yadav from Maharashtra, Prakash Sinha from Bengal and Prakash Mali from Madhya Pradesh.
J&K’s participants made a significant impact, with 42 children representing the region. Notably, the Gurukul Dance Academy from Udhampur won third place in the traditional group dance category. Manikarnika Singh from Samba achieved second place in the solo classical dance category. The Star World Dance Academy, led by Isha Jain, secured a bronze medal in the senior trio dance category.
The Harman Dance Institute from Jammu achieved remarkable success, with Pranvit Singh winning gold in the junior solo traditional dance category and Aaruhi Bhagat, Harliv Kour, and Hishani earning gold in the trio dance category. Additionally, the senior Bhangra group from Harman Dance Institute won gold. Navya from R. D. Dance Academy clinched a silver medal in solo traditional dance, while Samridhi Sen from Kishtwar and Aradhya Sharma from Udhampur won gold in junior and senior singing categories, respectively. Suhani Sharma from Jammu also secured a silver medal in senior singing.
The event concluded with a recognition ceremony where the top performers were awarded and selected for the upcoming international dance competition in Nepal. The J&K participants were supported by the Performing Arts Association of J&K, managed by Harman Cultural and Educational Society, Jammu. The impressive results highlight the region’s growing prominence in the performing arts arena.
