JAMMU, Sept 4: The 3rd J&K UT Ranking Table Tennis Championships 2024 commenced at the Indoor Sports Complex, M.A. Stadium, here today. The event was inaugurated by Ajay Sharma, Senior Vice President of the J&K Table Tennis Association (JKTTA), a National Player, and an International Medalist. Guest of Honour, Satbir Singh, an International Table Tennis player, was also present at the ceremony.
In his address, Ajay Sharma emphasized the importance of dedication and urged the players to embrace the spirit of the game. Following the inaugural ceremony, the chief guest stayed to witness the matches, showing support for the young athletes.
The tournament, organized by the J&K Table Tennis Association in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, is part of the “My Youth My Pride” initiative, aimed at promoting sports and empowering youth in the region. The championship has attracted around 200 players from across the J&K Union Territory and is set to be a four-day-long event.
As the tournament got underway, the first rounds of the Cadet Boys and Cadet Girls singles matches were in progress, showcasing the young talents of the region.
Prominent figures present at the event included Satbir Singh, Rajan Sharma, I.P. Singh, Narinder Singh, Sheetal Gandotra, Vasu Dewan and Meenu Rajesh. The Championships promises to be a thrilling display of skill and determination as the best players from the region compete for top honours.
