JAMMU, Apr 19: In the election season, there has been no let up in illegal infiltration of former Kashmiri militants along with their Pakistani wives and children from Pakistan and PoK with another big group of 17 persons including four militants, their three Pakistani wives and 10 children intruding into the Indian territory from forward village of Nauntawan in Maharajganj area, bordering Nepal, in Uttar Pradesh last night.
With the infiltration of fresh group, a total of 47 persons including 12 militants, or former militants, and their family members have infiltrated into the Indian side and sent to the Kashmir Valley during past two weeks. Significantly, all three infiltration attempts have taken place on Friday.
Four militants and their families arrested this time at Indo-Nepal border at Nauntawan in Maharajganj area of Uttar Pradesh were carrying Pakistani passports with them. In two previous infiltrations, the militants had destroyed their passports at Kathmandu after flying there from Pakistan’s port city of Karachi.
Official sources told the Excelsior that the para-military force Shastra Seema Bal (SSB), deployed along Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh, intercepted the infiltrators, detained and quizzed them at the safe house near the border before handing them over to CID Cell of Jammu and Kashmir Police this morning. They were on way to New Delhi and would be taken to Srinagar for questioning and registration of case against them.
Sources identified the infiltrators as Mohammad Maqbool Lone, a former militant and a resident of Baramulla district, who brought with him his wife from PoK Nashreen Bibi and children Adnan Maqbool and Munan Maqbool, Mohammad Rafiq, a former militant and a resident of Kupwara, who infiltrated with his wife Bibo and children Simran and Amrin, Suleman Choudhary, a militant from Kupwara, who brought with him his wife Resham Jan and two children Aijaz Ahmed and Imtiyaz Ahmed, Riyaz Ahmed, a former militant from Kupwara, who came with his wife Zaheena Bibi and children Shadia, Sajjad and Rubina.
Sources said all four militants belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen outfit and had infiltrated into PoK from Kupwara sector in the Kashmir Valley in the early nineties. They had undergone training in different camps set up by the Hizbul Mujahideen. However, they couldn’t manage to infiltrate back to the Kashmir and were held up in PoK. After waiting for some time, the militants married local girls in PoK and had children from them. They were working in local shops and factories to earn their livelihood.
Sources said during past two weeks only, 47 persons have infiltrated from Pakistan and PoK through Nepal-Uttar Pradesh border on way back to the Kashmir Valley. Last Friday on April 11, a total of 18 persons including four militants, five women and nine children had intruded from the same border while prior to that i.e. April 4 (again Friday), 12 persons including four militants with their three Pakistani wives, an equal number of children and two Pakistani relatives had entered into the Indian side.
Over 400 persons including militants, or former militants, along with their Pakistani wives and children have reached Jammu and Kashmir illegally since the announcement of Rehabilitation Policy for the militants by the State Government. However, none of them fall under the Policy, which covered four routes only-Chakan-Da-Bagh in Poonch-Rawlakote, Uri-Muzaffarabad, Wagah border in Amritsar district and Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in New Delhi.
