SRINAGAR, Sept 23: The 9th J&K UT Pencak Silat Championship 2024 came to an exhilarating conclusion at the Indoor Hall, Polo Ground here today. Over four days, the event, organized by the J&K Pencak Silat Association in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, showcased fierce competition among more than 1,250 athletes from 18 districts across the Union Territory.
The closing ceremony featured Tariq Zargar, Secretary General of the Indian Pencak Silat Federation, as the chief guest. Highlights included the distribution of medals and trophies to winners in various categories, the recognition of outstanding performers and coaches, and vibrant cultural performances that celebrated Kashmiri heritage.
Zargar stated, “The Pencak Silat Association and Indian Pencak Silat Federation, alongside the J&K Sports Council, are committed to nurturing local talent through platforms like this championship. We will continue to support and promote Pencak Silat in the region.” District Srinagar was declared the overall champion of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Shahid Hilal of Grand Warriors Academy won a gold medal.
