JAMMU, Sept 24: To raise electoral awareness and voter participation, the students of The Law School, University of Jammu, organized Nukkad Natak titled “Samvidhan Ka Samman, Matdaan Ka Adhikaar.”
This event was part of the third Prof V S Mallar Memorial Legal Aid Competition, 2024, organized by NLSIU, Bengaluru, and Symbiosis Law School, Pune, in collaboration with the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India.
Opening the event, Piyush Khajuria, Rishabh, and their team delivered an engaging musical performance that set the tone for the day, emphasizing the crucial role of youth in shaping a democratic society. Their energetic presentation served as a reminder of the importance of active participation in the electoral process.
The highlight of the program was a powerful Nukkad Natak performed by students, which traced the historical journey of voting rights in India, from independence to the present day. The play intricately woven together themes of constitutional rights, the attributes of a good candidate, and the significance of election manifestos. It also addressed contemporary challenges to free and fair elections, ensuring the audience was both informed and engaged. The talented cast, including Suhasni Sharma, Tanvi Bhagat, Janvi Sharma, Diksha Sangra, Bhagirathi, Usman, Raghvendra, Harshika, and Aditya, who delivered a spellbinding performance under the expert guidance of Drama Instructor Sumit. Their creativity brought to life the struggles and achievements associated with voting rights, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
Dr Seema Rohmetra, Director, The Law School, commended the students for their activism, highlighting the critical message that every vote matters. Her words resonated with the attendees, reinforcing the importance of individual participation in the democratic process.
The event also featured contributions from several distinguished faculty members along with members of the District SVEEP Team, including Dr Avineet, Dr Paramjeet Kour, Poonam, Dr Sita Ram Shastri; NSS Unit-3 volunteers and Mansi Mantoo (Media Officer, JU).
Overall, Dr Nitan Sharma, Faculty Member, The Law School, was instrumental in coordinating the event, ensuring it served both as an educational platform and a call to action for students to recognize their electoral rights.
