Notorious thief held, stolen items worth lakhs recovered

JAMMU, Sept 24: Police in Jammu’s Gharota area here claimed to have arrested a notorious thief and recovered from his possession stolen items worth several lakhs.
A police official said that on September 23, one Mohammad Akbar son of late Bhag Ali of Kot Badhani, Tehsil Bhalwal, District Jammu, lodged a written complaint with Police Station Gharota stating therein theft of his HP laptop along with some accessories from his house by unknown thieves.
On this, he said, a case FIR number 89/2024 under section 305(A) of the BNS was registered at Police Station Gharota and investigation started.
During investigation, the police official said that a police team led by SHO Gharota rounded up a suspect identified as Sahil Kumar of Ghari, Tehsil Marh, District Jammu.
He said the suspect was taken into police custody under section 35(A) of the BNS for a thorough investigation.
During sustained interrogation, the suspect confessed to his involvement in the theft and on his disclosure, the stolen HP laptop, along with other accessories was recovered from his possession, said the police official.
Some other mobile phones stolen by the accused from different locations were also recovered during the investigation, added the police official.
Further investigation into the case is underway, he added.
