GUREZ, Sept 26: DPAP Chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad, during his two-day tour of Gurez, challenged other political parties to compare their developmental achievements with his tenure as Chief Minister and Union Health Minister.
Addressing gatherings, Azad expressed surprise at the failure of political parties who ruled Gurez and surrounding areas for years to provide essential services.
He highlighted that the roads, electricity, hospitals, and colleges in the region were established under his leadership, while others have failed to deliver.
“These parties have done nothing for the people despite their long tenures. Now, they are once again trying to deceive people for votes,” Azad remarked.
He called on these parties to present their developmental records in comparison to his, emphasizing the continued hardships faced by the people of Gurez due to a lack of basic facilities.
Azad warned locals not to be swayed by false promises, stating, “Those who have won elections here should visit Tulail Gurez and see the condition. People still lack drinking water, mobile connectivity, road access, and electricity. For over 70 years, these parties have exploited the people with emotional slogans while the poor continue to suffer.”
Reflecting on his tenure, Azad pointed out that despite only serving two and a half years in office, he delivered essential services and pledged to do more for Gurez in the future. He also praised the Indian Army for their support to the people, particularly during harsh winters.
Azad promised to reintroduce the Roshni scheme to benefit the poor and vowed to fight against government land eviction orders. He assured the public that he would introduce legislation to protect local land and jobs, ensuring that outsiders cannot take them.
Others present at the event included Nasir Lone, Chief spokesperson Salman Nizami, and Provincial Gen Secretary Shafiq Shabnam.
