2 labourers die while digging pit, 4 injured

SAMBA, Sept 26: Two labourers died and four were seriously injured after a heap of soil collapsed on them while digging a pit for construction of a bridge on Devak river here this afternoon.

The incident took place when some labourers were working on the new bridge on Devak river for Delhi Amritsar Katra Express Highway and a heap of soil fell on them in which six labourers got trapped. The other labourers and workers reached for help and they also informed the police about the incident. With the help of police and other workers, four labourers were rescued immediately and shifted to AIIMS for treatment.

The other two trapped labourers were rescued by the NDRF. Both of them were also shifted to AIIMS but were declared as brought dead.
As soon as the information about the accident was received, the SHOs of Samba and Vijaypur along with the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) officials rushed to the spot. The police and the National Highway Authority started carrying out their operation on a war footing to rescue the workers buried under the debris in the pit. The NDRF relief and rescue team workers also played an important role in the rescue operation.
The workers who died in the accident have been identified as Sobin Kumar, son of Rajesh Singh of Khagaria Bihar and Lal Singh, son of Late Hukam Chand of Bakal tehsil, Bhomag district Reasi.
The injured have been identified as Dheeraj Sharma son of Balwinder Kumar of Sampuran Karkelian Jammu, Davinder Kumar, son of Nand Lal Prashad of Purbi Champaran, Bihar, Kiran Sharma, son of Bansi Lal of Tikri, Udhampur and Sahab Kumar Yadav, son of Jodh Raj of East Champaran Bihar.
The Police have registered a case under relevant sections of law and started investigation.
