JAMMU, Sept 30: The STAIR District Badminton Tournament, organized by STAIR J&K, kicked off at M.A. Stadium, here today. Recognized as a National Sports Promotion Organization by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, the tournament attracted participation from over 20 schools and clubs across the region.
The opening ceremony featured Rahul Sahai, Chairman of the State Development Board, STAIR J&K, as the chief guest. In his address, he emphasized the significance of discipline and constructive time management for athletes, stating that patience is crucial for coping with criticism and setbacks in sports.
Guests of Honour Samardev Charak, President of the State Development Board, and Puneet Arora, Vice President, spoke about the broader benefits of sports. Samardev noted that participating in sports not only enhances physical and mental health but also develops essential life skills and self-awareness.
Gulshan Rattan, Chief Sports Coordinator for STAIR, highlighted the commitment required from student-athletes to maintain a consistent practice routine. The tournament featured exciting matches across various age categories. In the Under-16 Boys category, Parth Pandita of MLZS won the gold medal, while Avik Bhat secured the silver. In the Under-14 Boys category, Vansh Bhagat of Sarvodaya took home the gold, with Tejasav earning the silver. For the Under-12 Boys, Shivansh of KCIS claimed gold and Adit Sharma of Tiny Tots won silver.
In the girls’ categories, Pramiti won gold and Tavisha secured silver in the Under-16 category. Aarvi won gold and Posh earned silver in the Under-14 category. The STAIR J&K team expressed gratitude to Sidharth Upadhyay, National President of the STAIR Foundation, for his role in introducing STAIR initiatives in Jammu and Kashmir.
