JAMMU, Apr 24: While honouring the heads (Principals), along with sports teachers and allied staff of those institutions of Jammu division, the students of which have participated and excelled in 59th National School Games last year, the Director General Youth Services and Sports, Navin Agarwal said that it is almost impossible to excel in any field without a patron, a teacher, a coach or a preacher.
Mr Agarwal said this during a function organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports at Police Auditorium, Gulshan Ground, here today.
“No child can excel in sports field without receiving a proper training from a coach or a teacher,” said Mr Agarwal.
Highlighting the achievements of the budding sportspersons, the Director General said that the State of Jammu and Kashmir has won 51 medals in 59th National Schools Games, with 2 gold, 15 silver and 34 bronze, adding that there was record number of participation in National School Games last year.
To a question as to why PETs and PEMs rather than working in their institutions are assigned the duties off and on by the Department, Mr Agarwal said that they have to run their institutions as also their Department, adding that the requisition of their duties needs to be rationalized.
