JAMMU, Oct 12: Veteran Cricket Association J&K XI triumphed over Orzu Cricket Club of Chandigarh Veterans by 7 wickets in the opening match of the Inter-state Veteran T20 Cricket Tournament, jointly organized by the Veteran Cricket Association J&K and Orzu Cricket Club Chandigarh.
Chandigarh Veterans, led by Ashwani Koul, opted to bat first, posting a competitive 167/6 in 20 overs. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Vimal’s unbeaten 29 and Ravinder’s 26 helped stabilize the innings. For VCA J&K XI, Sandeep and Paeas took two wickets each, with Ratnesh, Rajeev, Ashish and Akash chipping in with one each.
In response, VCA J&K XI captain Vivek Suri sent in Sunil Sharma and Amit Kumar to open the innings. Despite losing Sunil early, Amit’s explosive 86 off 50 balls and Abhishek’s 42 off 36 balls formed a crucial 100-run partnership, leading their team to victory in 18.1 overs. Amit Kumar was named Player of the Match for his match-winning performance. For Chandigarh Manoj, Dheeral and Vimal each claimed one wicket, but their efforts were not enough to stop VCA J&K XI from securing a comfortable win.
