JAMMU, Apr 26: Various Sikh organizations have strongly condemned the brutal torture of law graduate Ranjodh Singh Nalwa in Police Station Trikuta Nagar and Police Post Narwal by concerned SHO.
In a joint press conference, senior Sikh leaders of Shrimoni Akali Dal (Badal) J&K, Shrimoni Akali Dal (Amritsar), Sikh Intellectuals Circle, Sikh Students Federation, JK Sikh Council, Khalsa Pantnic Morcha, Sikh Welfare Front and J&K Sikh Progressive Front namely Mohinder Singh, HS Raina, Manjit Singh, Gurdev Singh, Jaspal Singh Mangal, Suchwant Singh, Surjit Singh, NS Khalsa, Brigadier Rajinder Singh, Comrade Sukhdev Singh, Manmohan Singh Khalsa, Manjit Singh, Ranjit Singh, Harmohinder Singh, Surjit Singh (Kashmir) and Pyara Singh condemned the police action over Nalwa and arbitrary slapping of PSA on baseless and flimsy ground.
They said that the Sikh community people believe in peace, equitable justice and human rights of every citizen in J&K and this kind of police action will force them to come on roads.
They disclosed that Nalwa was earlier implicated in murder case and after facing trial ultimately the justice prevailed and he (Nalwa) was acquitted, they said, adding that after his release when Ranjodh Singh asked his partner to render the accounts of the business at Fruit Mandi of last four years, Nalwa was arrested by a team from Trikuta Nagar police station headed by SHO Chanchal Singh on flimsy grounds on April 15, 2014.
“Ranjodh Singh was brutally tortured to declare that he has no concern in the business with his partner”, they said, adding that no scuffle or altercation took place between Nalwa and his partner as the same fact has been authenticated by the bail order of Singh”, they added.
“After brutal torture CJM Jammu constituted the medical board and Court also granted the bail and after this relief from the Court concerned police authorities compelled Ranjodh Singh Nalwa to withdraw the application against police in Court and also threatened him with dire consequence of fake encounter and PSA”, they added.
“PSA has been arbitrarily slapped on Ranjodh Singh without sufficient grounds and such unfortunate thing will worsen the situation”, they added.
Meanwhile, reacting to the charges leveled in the press conference, police said they have averted a murder with the arrest of Ranjodh Singh Nalwa.
“Nalwa was arrested red handed while trying to commit a murder. It is wrong to say that police was trying to frame innocent youth,’’ police sources said, adding that they had averted a major crime with the arrest of Nalwa.
Police dismissed the charges leveled in the press conference as “baseless’’.
