JAMMU, Oct 19: The highly anticipated intercollegiate sports meet, Convoquer 2024, was inaugurated with great enthusiasm at IIT Jammu.
Ranjeet Kalra, Member of the J&K Sports Council was the chief guest while Prof. Manoj Gaur, Director of IIT Jammu; Dr. Sartaj Ul Hasan, Dean; Dr. Devi Lal, AD Sports; Col. Virinder Singh Jeji, Registrar; Dr. R. P. Prajapat, AR (SA); Raj Srivastava, OIC Sports; and Vedant Jhunjhunwala, Sports Secretary among others were present on the occasion.
The ceremonial lighting of diyas marked the official inauguration of the event, symbolizing the spread of knowledge and positivity through sports.
During the event, Dean Dr. Sartaj Ul Hasan spoke on the importance of balancing academics and sports, while Director Prof. Manoj Gaur highlighted sports as a medium for character building and unity. Shri Ranjeet Kalra delivered an inspiring speech emphasizing sportsmanship.
Competitions commenced the following morning, featuring various sports such as football, chess and volleyball. The event concluded with a captivating cultural performance by IIT Jammu’s music club, Malang, leaving attendees with a sense of excitement and gratitude.
