POONCH, Apr 28: In a continuous drive to protect consumer interest, a team of officers of Legal Metrology Department Poonch headed by Assistant Controller Rajesh Heera conducted surprise inspection of hardware stores, sweet shop, ration depots, goldsmiths, karayana shops and kerosene oil depots at Bhainch, Khanater and Surankote.
During the inspection Inspector Legal Metrology Poonch Prittam Chand booked 11 traders for violating various provisions of J&K Weights and Measures (Enf.) Act 1997 and a fine of rupees 7400 was recovered from the defaulters.
Traders were warned of stern legal action in case of indulgence in anti consumer practices. They were further directed to use only verified weighing instruments and to sell the packages with mandatory declaration of MRP, Net Weight, Packing Date, complete address of the manufacturers and packers along with the consumer helpline number.
