JAMMU, Apr 29: Associated Chamber of Traders Federation (ACTF) has urged upon the Government to rethink on its decision to accept only e-filing of the returns from the businessmen having annual turn over of one crore and above.
In a press statement issued here, the Federation members said it is practically not possible because most of the businessmen and their accountants are not conversant with the technique. It requires total overhauling of the system, installing computers and appointing fresh computer knowing staff.
They said the ACTF is ready to cooperate with the Government and adopt the modern technology but it feels that the sufficient time inputs and awareness in this regard has not been provided by the Government. The returns for the first three quarters of the year has been accepted in the manual mode and suddenly the Government through its order No. 2 of 2014 has made the e-filing compulsory.
They pointed out that J&K is not so technically strong as compared to other States of the country and therefore, requires some concession in the matter of technicalities. Manual filing of returns, does not cause any revenue loss to the Government and any benefit to the businessman. It only involves certain technicalities which create problem for the businessman. It is therefore, requested that option of filing manual returns be continued so that the traders can file their returns well in time.
The ACTF also claimed to have taken up the matter with the Principal Secretary Finance, B B Vyas in this connection to apprise him of the problem. He appreciated the problem but expressed his reservations. The ACTF has sought the intervention of Finance Minister in this concern.
