Srinagar, Oct 24: The Red Premier League (RPL) 2024 final saw Royal Goodwill Cricket Club claim a comfortable 47-run victory over Hamdan Hurricanes Cricket Club.
Held at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar, the match marked the conclusion of a month-long cricket extravaganza in the region.
Batting first, Royal Goodwill CC posted 144/9 in their 20 overs, with contributions from their entire batting lineup.
In response, Hamdan Hurricanes CC struggled and were bowled out for just 97 runs, falling well short of the target. Royal Goodwill’s disciplined bowling and sharp fielding ensured a one-sided contest.
Ishtiyak Rasool, the tournament’s standout player, was named Man of the Series for his impressive tally of 300 runs at a strike rate of 150, along with 14 wickets.
His performances were pivotal in Royal Goodwill CC’s success throughout the competition.
The Red Premier League 2024 set new standards for cricket in Jammu and Kashmir, drawing widespread attention and breaking viewership records with over 4 crore viewers on social media.
This was the first time a tournament of such scale and professionalism had been organized in the region, featuring more than 240 players, including several from the Ranji Trophy and IPL circuits.
The tournament also saw standout individual performances. Hilal Ahmad finished as the top run-scorer with 317 runs, averaging 63 and maintaining a blistering strike rate of 207, while Wasim Raza led the bowling with 15 wickets at an economy rate of 4.77.
Several high-profile dignitaries attended the final, including Satish Sharma, Minister of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Transport, Science and Technology, Information Technology, Youth Services and Sports, ARI and Trainings, who served as the Guest of Honour.
In his address, he commended the tournament for promoting youth engagement and bringing top-quality cricket to the region.
Special guests included Sarmad Hafeez, Administrative Secretary for Youth Services and Sports, and Nuzhat Gull, Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, both of whom praised the RPL’s positive impact on the local sports landscape and its potential to shape future cricket events in the region.
The organizers stated that the decision to restrict attendance was based on government guidelines, allowing only 400 people, including players, officials, and essential staff.
