JAMMU, Apr 30: Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Jammu today held strong protest demonstration in the Court Complex at Janipur and outside Raj Bhawan in protest against police highhandedness.
The agitating lawyers condemned the attitude of the senior police officers for protecting the erring police personnel of Gandhi Nagar Police Station involved in brutal acts of beating, illegal detention and atrocities on Advocate Harshvardhan Gupta.
While addressing the agitating lawyers, President of the Association, M K Bhardwaj reiterated the demand of immediate suspension of accused for conducting an impartial, independent and fair inquiry by an independent agency, adding “supremacy of rule of law must prevail as the same is of paramount importance in a civilized society”.
Later, a delegation led by M K Bhardwaj called on Divisional Commissioner at his office where DIG Jammu, Deputy Commissioner and SSP Jammu were also present. The delegation reiterated its demand for suspension of the erring police officials to pave the way for fair inquiry in the matter. However, the meeting ended in a deadlock.
Meanwhile, Bar Association has made an appeal to the political parties, organizations, civil society, public at large, students and all those who are aggrieved of such repeated illegal action of the police personnel to come forward in order to protect the human rights violations at the hands of police.
