JAMMU, Apr 30: The Medical Teachers Association, Jammu , has appealed the State Government to take measures for preventing depletion of faculty by immediate enhancing the retirement age of faculty of Government Medical Colleges in J&K,
In a joint statement, MTA president Dr Tariq Azad and general secretary Dr S K Bali have expressed apprehensions about proper functioning of the newly announced five Medical Colleges in J&K for want faculty.
They hailed the decision of State Government to give a nod to start these five new Government Medical Colleges from September 2014 but expressed apprehensions over their proper functioning due to acute shortage of faculty.
To discuss the issue, a meeting of executive body of MTA was held today wherein resolution was passed seeking measures to prevent depletion of faculty by immediately enhancing the retirement age of faculty of GMC’s from existing 58 yrs to 65 yrs as per MCI norms.
The MTA also appealed the Chief Minister and Minister for Health & Medical Education to implement the MCI rules in toto ( as far as nomenclature of cadre and promotions is concerned ) along-with provision of uniform pay scale – as is prevalent in the Government Medical Colleges of Punjab, Haryana, HP, UT Chandigarh, Delhi and other Central Government Medical Colleges.
This step shall attract the highly qualified doctors of our state , who have otherwise joined private sector / Medical Institutions outside the state, the MTA opined adding that the government needs to be farsighted to address these core issues, other-wise the fate of the new Medical Colleges can be fore-seen and they may remain on papers only .
Pertinent to mention that Faculty of GCET has already been accorded nomenclature, pay and perks as per AICET.
