SRINAGAR, Oct 27: Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) showcased an exceptional performance, defeating Services by an innings in their Ranji Trophy Elite Group-A match at the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, here today. The victory was largely attributed to a stellar bowling display from Yudhvir Singh, Auqib Nabi and Umar Nazir, who dismantled the opposition’s batting lineup.
Umar Nazir, the 6’’-3’’right-arm medium pacer, led the charge in the second innings, capturing 6 wickets for just 53 runs. His ability to swing the ball both ways left the Services batsmen struggling. In the first innings, Yudhvir Singh and Auqib Nabi set the tone by each claiming 5 wickets, laying the groundwork for J&K’s dominance.
J&K resumed their first innings from an overnight score of 183/7 and finished at 228, gaining a crucial lead of 157 runs. Shubham Khajuria was the standout performer with the bat, scoring 55 runs, supported by contributions from Shubham Singh Pundir (29), skipper Paras Dogra (28), Ahmad Banday (24), and Yudhvir Singh (22).
In response to J&K’s total, Services struggled and were bowled out for a mere 132 runs in their second innings. SG Rohilla top-scored for Services with 47 runs, while Jayant Goyat and Arun Kumar chipped in with 27 and 20 runs, respectively.
Umar Nazir’s outstanding performance as the wrecker-in-chief, combined with Yudhvir Singh’s 3 wickets for 35 runs, ensured a comprehensive victory for J&K. The team’s exceptional bowling performance and a solid first innings set the stage for this commanding win.
The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) Sub Committee, including Brigadier Anil Gupta, Mithun Manhas, and Adv Sunil Sethi, congratulated the team on their impressive victory, highlighting the continued growth and potential of cricket in the region.
